Words Their Way Implementation Schedule:

**During the first week of school, give the spelling inventory from the Words Their Way professional text. Give the Elementary Spelling Inventory from page 319 to all students. You may have to give the Primary Spelling Inventory (page 315) or the Upper Level Spelling Inventory (page 322) if a student scores low or high on the Elementary Spelling Inventory.

Week Two-
Choose a low sort to introduce procedures and activities to all students.
Students should be with their original teacher.
Set up notebooks and folders

Introduce independent open sort
Introduce independent closed sort

Introduce sentence writing
Introduce the game Tic, Tac, Toe
Week Three-
Introduce speed sort
Introduce word hunt
Introduce ABC order sort
Free day- students can choose their own or use this day to reteach or catch up
Conduct a practice assessment
Week Four-
This is the first week to officially start the students’ sorts. They should be divided into their word study level. Students should rotate to their assigned teacher.

(The two-week rotation lesson plan is to fit within a two week block. It is not a ten day schedule. Therefore, you may need to eliminate a sort or more if there is a short week.)
