October 8 Update

The blog has been updated with an example of an open sort. I also changed the closed sort video to one with a clearer example. If you would like to see a video of something that isn't listed, please let Kara know.

If your students are in the letter name sorts, Sorts #1-5 are picture sorts. If you would like the picture sorts, use the examples found on the disc that came with the teacher's manual. Otherwise you can start on sort #6 found on the U:drive.

If you are looking for a particular sort on the U:drive and cannot find it, please let Kara know. We will get it posted for you.

If you would like to observe Words Their Way in action, fourth graders do this every day at 1:20. We would be happy to find someone come and watch your class while you do the observation.

Schedule Updates

We are recommending that WTW should start with the practice sort October 7th and official sorts October 21st where students are switching. (With exceptions to 4th grade- since they already started)

We are planning a quick recap of Words Their Way at next Monday's staff meeting (September 23rd).

All teachers should have given and scored the Words Their Way assessment by September 30th.

There will be an optional training held on Thursday, October 3 in Room 15 (Riley).

All teachers should have consistent folder and notebook setups put together by October 4th.

By October 14, your grade level team should have all students sorted into groups by spelling stage. If you need help with this process, see Kara Riley.

Please let us know if you have any questions.
